Session Submission Type: Full Paper Panel

Session Description

This panel examines the way historical legacies affect the modern era in diverse ways, including how self-reproducing sequences affect contemporary phenomena in the social sciences; how constitutional development is best explained by non-normative principles established hundreds of years ago; how transitions to modernity include emblematic social relationships via objects, such as the sword; and how historical forms of familial government, such as the monarchical state, promote components of the modern liberal state.
