This panel examines recent trends in electoral violence and other forms of political violence that shape the preferences of ordinary citizens in African democracies and those undergoing democratic transition. It highlights key vectors of polarization in that manifest within both fragile democratic institutions and within voter populations, many of whom represent marginalized groups angling to exercise their rights.
