Session Submission Type: Virtual Poster Session
The posters in this session examine health politics and health policy within and across several nations, including but not limited to the United States, Turkey, and Chile.
Gian Franco Bermudez and Jennifer Prah Ruger analyze nearly 75,000 tweets from 2016-2020 to uncover the policy preferences of 20 public and private actors in global health governance. They find that wealthy funding organizations “drive global health governance and dictate global health priorities,” with the resulting emphasis being on “specific disease control programs in particular countries rather than strengthening health systems, institutions and infrastructure for health equity.”
Yasushi Hazama studies the relative influence of formal and informal social capital in Turkey on pro-social behavior--specifically behaviors aimed at preventing the spread of infections like COVID-19.
Claudio A. Méndez studies why Chile--a country with a strong commitment to universal health coverage--would see demands for better access to healthcare. This paper examines the role of interests, institutions, ideas, and ideology in answering this question.
Anthony Dell'Aera examines how Operation Warp Speed has impacted the pharmaceutical regulatory state.
