The Politics of Illicit Economies, Organized Crime, and Extra-Legal Actors In-Person Mini-Conference
This session will address the numerous challenges specific to research in this area. Topics will include how to collect and analyze data on violence beyond merely homicide statistics, the practical and ethical challenges of ethnographic research, how to conduct interviews with and about illicit actors, and the ethical and security considerations which scholars must keep in mind while writing up their findings.
