Turning Restraint Into Reality: Connecting Grand Strategy to Policy Change

Wed, September 29, 6:00 to 7:30am PDT (6:00 to 7:30am PDT), TBA

Session Submission Type: Virtual Roundtable

Session Description

The grand strategy of restraint is enjoying greater popularity among U.S. policymakers. While it is not America's dominant grand strategy, restraint's ideas and policy proposals are receiving greater attention and having a more noticeable impact on U.S. foreign policy.

Now that restraint is becoming a more mainstream grand strategy, how can it influence U.S. foreign policy? Are there weak spots in restraint's foundational assumptions that need to be further examined in order to improve the grand strategy's policy prescriptions? How can restraint turn its sweeping strategic ideas into reality?
