Session Submission Type: Virtual Roundtable
How can political science departments and chairs adopt policies that are more supportive of contingent faculty? This question is especially important given that more than 75% of classes in American higher education are taught by faculty not on the tenure track. APSA's Committee on the Status of Contingent Faculty in the Profession has been developing a list of minimum standards that we believe the Association should adopt as guiding recommendations for departments to follow. We use this roundtable to solicit assistance from representatives at the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) to discuss and finalize the minimum standards and to offer suggestions on how to move the standards forward. Overall, the goal of the panel is to concretely and sufficiently edit the original minimum standards to present to APSA once again for their adoption.
