Session Submission Type: Virtual Roundtable
This roundtable discussion will consider the ways in which intersectionality presents an opportunity for social movements. Individuals who find themselves at the intersection of multiple marginalized identities are most vulnerable to, and targeted by, hate crimes, police violence, and discriminatory legislation. In this panel, we consider the intersection of LGBTQ advocacy and the Movement for Black Lives. Public events such as the 15,000-strong march for Black Trans Lives in Brooklyn last summer illustrate the potency of integrating intersectionality into social justice movements. What can we learn from this form of mobilization? What challenges remain to fostering this type of movement?
