Session Submission Type: Created Panel
This panel focuses on different forms of political participation in democracies and the role of policies, parties and groups in mobilising and motivating citizen engagement. The panel examines how labour market and retirement policies and lifecycle transitions affects political participation, and investigates types of participation and participatory inequality over time and across countries. The panel will also explore how differing mobilisation strategies in independence referendums affects the subsequent electoral performance of nationalist parties, and which factors motivate party members to volunteer for election campaigning. The panel will furthermore examine how and why interest groups in declining industries mobilise politically around elections.
