Over the last several years, we have seen a move toward greater transparency in the social sciences. Many journals and professional associations now encourage researchers to make their research practices and procedures, and sometimes their raw their raw data, available to other researchers, reviewers and journal editors. This move is driven by a desire to improve quality of research, increase confidence in published findings, and better enable researchers to build on each other’s work. However this movement has also raised concerns about whether such a move might also have unintended consequences.
