Annual Meeting App
About Annual Meeting
The ASA Annual Meeting App is available to meeting attendees as an additional resource. Please note: the App is separate and distinct from the online program schedule. Both the online program schedule and the app have a few similar features available to you.
Both resources include a personal schedule/agenda builder (with the ability to export your details in (ical/ICS) format to the calendars you maintain on your personal devices. The online program schedule includes the full listing of the session (i.e. presenters, paper/talk titles, and descriptions)-- the meeting room location is visible only if you have logged into the online program using your ASA user name and password.
The App has no login requirements to gain access and use. The App lists the "condensed" version, or Pocket Program. This version includes only the session number, session title and meeting room locations.
Late-breaking updates to sessions(the "convention bulletin") are also provided on the App. These updates will not appear in the online program until after the Annual Meeting.
The app also includes:
You should determine which of the two available resources best suits your needs. Here's the QR code for the App:
- Pocket Program & Convention Bulletin;
- Information on getting to and around, San Francisco and the meeting facilities;
- Information on service hours and locations;
- Real-time alerts on special events and happenings during the meeting;
- Instant messaging capabilities among registered attendees (without using email);
- Note Taking features allowing you to save and send notes to your preferred email account.
Wireless Internet Access and Social Media during the Annual Meeting:
ASA provides complimentary basic bandwidth wireless internet access to meeting attendees in the session rooms during the Annual Meeting. For those of you considering incorporating videos into your presentations, keep in mind that the basic bandwidth is sufficient to allow web browsing, access to the Annual Meeting App information and email access. However, it will not support streaming data (including Skype and FaceTime).
In ASA sessions, some members of the audience may use twitter or other forms of social media to share the results of papers presented. In rare instances people will record sessions; if you prefer that audio recordings or video recordings not occur, please share your request with the audience. ASA encourages all program participants to be sensitive to the requests of others.
During the Annual Meeting, the ASA Press Office shares results from the meeting with the media. ASA encourages presenters to notify their university press offices to ask them to share sociological research results which they believe are newsworthy.
