Climate change threatens all regions of the globe. Yet existing social inequalities are likely to affect the types of social responses as well as the effects climate change will have on populations. This panel will focus on social inequalities such as the "consumerist" response of the economically prosperous, the exacerbation of poverty and inequality in rural America, the varying responses of state and local governments within the United States, and the effects of climate change on the global South.
