Session Submission Type: Paper Session
After years of sterility, racial theory was revived in the 1970s by Ture and Hamilton's work on institutional racism, Omi and Winant's work on racial formation in the 1980s, the work of Crenshaw and Hill-Collins on intersectionality, Feagin's work on systemic racism and Bonilla-Silva's racialized social system approach in the 1990s. In this session, these theorists will ponder the strengths/weaknesses of their theories, and forecast what is needed to advance racial theory in the 21st century.
