The last few years have been witness to both new forms of mobilization and to new political formations across the globe. From#blacklivesmatter to the Arab Spring and the June 2013 Protests in Brazil to new political parties like Podemos in Spain, the HDP in Turkey, and Syriza in Greece, a recurrent theme has been a a discussion of the limits of representative democracies. This panel explores particular instances as well as comparative questions on the nature of the so-called crisis of representation and attempts to overcome it.
