Joining Forces in Breaking Global Gender Disparity to Unlock the Power of Nations

Sat, August 10, 4:30 to 6:10pm, New York Hilton, Floor: Second Floor, Regent

Abstract

How do We Connect Social Science Scholars, Policy Makers, and Practitioners from Across the World and Together Find the Best Solution to Break Global Gender Disparity?
This session is designed for both social science scholars, policy makers, and practitioners either within or outside academia to understand what we can do to promote a global collaboration network and a diversified/multi-disciplinary community to break the barrier of gender disparity using the power of social science, innovative thinking, and experience. It is important to foster an intellectual community for scholars in the developing countries to engage in social justice and advocacy of gender equality. Scholars (including independent scholars without institutional affiliations) and practitioners from the developing countries are still underrepresented in research. They should be given equal opportunities for dialogue, research, publication, and network to engage in the process of intellectual representation as same as their colleagues in developed countries. However, they have fewer support such as a coherent intellectual community compared with their counterparts in U.S.A or UK. Not to mention the bargaining power of publication in peer-reviewed journal. This 10-min lightning presentation will feature the previous four years’ practice-setting applications of World Center for Women’s Studies (World-CWS), a self-sufficient non-government grass-root organization founded by scholars and practitioners with background in sociology, literature, law, economics, to provide service, research, and support to women’s empowerment worldwide, including but not limit to India, Sri-Lanka, Bangladesh, China (PRC), Taiwan (ROC), Philippines, Indonesia, U.S.A, Australia, UK, Iran, Italy, and Poland. Organizational/operational challenges, and challenges of working on the multidisciplinary and multicultural setting of World-CWS will also be discussed in this session.
