National Science Foundation Sociology Program

Abstract

The Sociology Program at the National Science Foundation welcomes proposals that inform sociological theory and/or methods. We conduct two major competitions per year. The first includes major research proposals from the full range of sociological inquiry. Target dates for submission are August 15th and January 15th every year. The second is our Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement (DDRI) grant competition; the next target date is October 15, 2019. In each case proposals are subject to merit review involving ad hoc reviews and/or panels composed of diverse groups of sociologists. Our Program also participates in the NSF-wide CAREER competition. In addition, we encourage all sociologists to consider sending proposals to the NSF-wide competitions, especially those involving NSF's Ten Big Ideas. These competitions frequently require interdisciplinary teams of scholars; these teams often welcome sociological expertise.
