Why RCC Matters: The Case for Expanding Racial Consciousness Conversations

Mon, August 10, 10:00 to 11:30am, TBA

Abstract

The Racial Consciousness Continuum (RCC) expands racial consciousness conversations outside of the US paradigm. My RCC concept relies heavily on the works of Anna Julia Cooper and W.E.B. Dubois, two scholars approaching conversations on racial consciousness in different but similar ways. This paper project explicitly calls for racial consciousness conversations to expand outside of the United States centric conversation while also paying homage to the works that American scholars have used to explore racialized consciousness. Moreover, my theoretical framing and approach seeks to add a nuanced approach that works in tandem with other racialization theories from more recent scholars. Consciousness is multifaceted and my RCC concepts asserts that constructions on racialized consciousness need to do the same.
