Through a quantitative design, this research examined factors of the academic professional workplace among different racial/ethnic subgroups of faculty of color in U.S. higher education institutions, and reports on how the work environment and faculty experience uniquely shape career-related outcomes for each racial/ethnic group. This study utilized data collected from the 2016-2017 Faculty Survey administered by the Higher Education Research Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles, and a sample of 26,410 faculty members nationwide. Our analyses found that work-related stress level plays a prominent role in certain faculty of color career outcomes, and also suggest that workload burden and satisfaction with the professional work environment are significant factors affecting job satisfaction for faculty of color. Furthermore, we found that work-related stress is experienced differently across different racial groups within the collective who identify as faculty of color. This report discusses some theoretical and practical implications of the research findings.
