Creative pedagogies are known to enhance learning, yet sociology has rarely studied or adopted them. This paper presents evidence from illustration-based assignments used in several sociology courses. I identify two especially effective practices: combining drawing and writing within one assignment, and asking students to create illustrations for real younger audiences. I close with recommendations for applying these strategies in other courses to strengthen engagement, retention, and deep comprehension of sociological concepts.
