Should we even be teaching DEI?

Sun, August 9, 2:00 to 3:30pm, TBA

Abstract

It’s all over the news… Florida has passed a law eliminating DEI programs and classes at state universities and high schools. Female and non-white military personnel have been removed from leadership positions. Training courses on DEI have been eliminated from all governmental agencies, and staff who participated have been fired. Columbia and other universities have been forced to end DEI programs and to change entry process for new students. Federal parks and museums have been made to erase any mention of slavery, and information about non-white military veterans has been removed from government websites. Sociology gives us the tools to analyze how power, identity, and inequality shape these sweeping changes—and how they affect our institutions, communities, and everyday lives. So what’s it all about? Let’s find out!
