Scholar-Activism in the World-System: NYC and Beyond

Mon, August 10, 8:00 to 9:30am, TBA

Session Submission Type: Invited Session (90 minute)

Description

Scholar-activists speak on their contributions to the political economy discourse, particularly PEWS, and political sociology as it relates to their grounding in NYC or cities in general. They will also consider how their activism has shaped their scholarship and its centrality to urban thought. In conversation with the PEWS perspective, panelists will highlight cities as sites of resistance against autocratic and fascist regimes and projects as they emerge and attempt to establish themselves. We look to cities for novel, informal, alternative economic and political solutions and strategies in making life livable, housing affordable, and justice palpable.
