Schooling and Intergenerational Mental Health

Sat, August 8, 2:00 to 3:30pm, TBA

Session Submission Type: Paper Session (90 minute)

Description

This session explores issues of mental health in schools with a specific emphasis on the experiences of school staff, as well as the interactions between students and adults and their perceptions of each other. Drawing on a variety of research methods and approaches, these papers address the complex issues faced by school systems and staff in contexts of violence, trauma, and other struggles. Issues include how adults -- such as teachers, counselors, and climate coaches -- navigate role ambiguity, conflicting guidance, their social locations, expectations for care labor, and relations to the official curriculum. This session is co-sponsored by the Sociology of Mental Health section.
