Session Submission Type: Paper Session (90 minute)
This session is inspired by recognition of psychiatrist and political philosopher Frantz Fanon (born just over 100 years ago on July 20, 1925). Fanon was a pioneer and maverick contributor to Black radical thought in the 20th century. While drawing upon his work as well as that of others (e.g., Gloria Anzaldúa, Oliver Cox, W.E.B. Du Bois) who contributed to a radical sociological tradition of race and ethnic inquiry, submissions are sought that address one or more of the following questions: 1) What possibilities remain for a contemporary radical sociology of race and ethnicity? and 2) What institutional, intellectual, or disciplinary challenges must be confronted and overcome to advance that tradition?
