Black Feminist Sociology Meets Racial and Ethnic Feminist Theory

Mon, August 10, 8:00 to 9:30am, TBA

Session Submission Type: Paper Session (90 minute)

Description

Over the course of several decades Black feminist theory has achieved a robust presence in American sociology. However, feminist theorizing for other people of color has been less well-incorporated into the disciplinary canon. This session seeks submissions that address the possibilities for bridging Black feminist theory with feminist theoretical traditions centering the experiences of other people of color. More specifically, submissions should draw from empirical research or the formulation of new theory to explore one or more of the following questions; 1) Is there a basis for synthesis or integration in feminist theorizing for people of color? and 2) How might distinction according to geographies (especially via empirical research done on or within them) invite such new thinking?
