Implications of Critical Events/Periods Across the Life Course

Tue, August 11, 10:00 to 11:30am, TBA

Session Submission Type: Paper Session (90 minute)

Description

Life course trajectories are shaped by critical events and transitional periods that have lasting implications on health, well-being, and social integration. This session brings together papers that examine how distinct yet consequential experiences, including economic shocks, the demands of parenthood, pandemic disruption, retirement, and lifelong non-marriage, reverberate across individual lives in ways deeply conditioned by gender, race, socioeconomic position, and historical context. Collectively, they move beyond static or event-centered understandings of life transitions by emphasizing their cumulative, dynamic, and structurally embedded nature. The session deepens theoretical and empirical understanding of how pivotal life course moments shape long-term well-being across diverse populations.
