Researchers have generated a substantial body of knowledge regarding the predictors of prison misconduct, and certain individual and facility characteristics have been identified as salient predictors. In contrast, few studies have examined the determinants of misconduct perpetrated by jail inmates. Using data from the two most recent waves of the Survey of Inmates in Local Jails, we examine the individual- and facility-level influences on misconduct in jails across the U.S.
