Physical intimate partner violence (IPV) among women remains a significant topic of discussion among professionals in criminal justice, criminology, sociology, and public health. In fact, recent national data suggests that approximately 57% of the women surveyed report having been the victim of physical violence at least once in a lifetime. The purpose of this qualitative case study is to explore the lived experiences of a survivor of a brutal physical assault by her ex-husband after announcing her decision to divorce. The primary goal of this study is to give “voice” to a survivor of domestic violence and break the silence of gendered violence against Black women in the African American community. Using a Black Feminist Intersectionality framework, this case study serves as the conceptual framework for strategies of empowerment and healing.
