Self-Control and Men's Frequency of Owning, Carrying, and Using a Gun

Thu, Nov 20, 6:00 to 8:00pm, Marriott, Golden Gate, B2 Level

Abstract

In the current study, we use life-event calendar data collected from over 600 men in prison to look at self-reported rates of gun ownership and frequency at which guns were carried among the participants. We also use data from incident reports, in which participants reported whether or not they had a gun during an incident and whether or not it was used. We will examine how many of the participants owned and carried a gun, as well as how many of them had a gun at an incident and whether or not it was used. Finally, we will consider the participants' self-control scores, and how it affects the rates of owning, carrying, and using a gun.
