Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel
Medical forensic examinations can be critical for supporting the investigation and prosecution of sexual assault. Examinations can, for example, yield biological evidence that can lead to DNA identification of suspects and toxicology evidence of alcohol-facilitated sexual assault. This panel presents findings from new research exploring relationships between medical examinations and their findings on arrest and prosecution decision-making and outcomes. This knowledge is essential in an era in which there is increasing attention to testing kits and using evidence from medical examinations in sexual assault cases.
