Diversities in DUI Courts: Do Behaviors and Experiences of Repeat Impaired Drivers Vary?

Fri, Nov 18, 8:00 to 9:20am, Hilton, Bridge, Riverside Complex

Abstract

Driving under the Influence (DUI) and Driving While Impaired (DWI) Courts are problem-solving programs intended to alter the behaviors of chronic/repeat impaired drivers. Although these programs have achieved significant success in reducing the likelihood of recidivism among repeat DUI offenders, there is insufficient information on for whom this program would work the best. This paper examines the impact of a variety of demographic characteristics on offender perceptions, experiences, and behaviors. The findings will help us understand the influence of culture in DUI and DWI court settings and develop culturally competent programs.
