Thu, Nov 17, 7:15 to 8:15pm, Hilton, Grand Ballroom A, 1st Level

Abstract

The LGBTQ movement has gained momentum over recent years. However, despite the passage of the marriage equality laws, attitudes towards LGBTQ remain negative throughout regions of the U.S. With the recent disputes of transgender rights in bathrooms the attitudes towards LGBTQ communities have been adverse. An article in the Washington Post in 2013 however, indicates that despite the discord towards the LGBTQ community the United States, in a global survey of tolerance, the country was ranked as one of the most tolerant. This study would aim to analyze whether the United States or Asian countries have more or less tolerance towards LGBTQ through online surveys. Moreover, this study include a personality assessment to analyze how personality traits impact LGBTQ tolerance and the difference between countries.
