Roundtable: The Failure of the African Bourgeoisie: A Criminological Investigation

Thu, Nov 17, 5:00 to 6:20pm, Hilton, Warwick, 3rd Level

Session Submission Type: Roundtable Session

Abstract

The African continent is replete with abundant human and material resources. Yet, Africa is still an underdeveloped continent. Whereas independence from colonialism generated Afro-optimism due to Africa’s abundant and vibrant economic and political prospects, Africa still ranks as the least advanced continent with the highest number of egotistical political leaders. The African bourgeoisie, as a ruling class, use political power to promote their interests to the neglect of the people. This roundtable will address the recurring failures of the African elite within historical and contemporary contexts. Finally, it will analyze Africa's social, economic and political dilemma and proffer some criminological solutions.
