Project Findings: A 10 Year Appraisal

Thu, Nov 17, 5:00 to 6:20pm, Hilton, Parish, 3rd Level

Abstract

While federal funding for varying policing related research projects are commonplace, taking a look back 10 years later and summarizing key findings in one readily digestible article is exceedingly uncommon. Rather, researchers generally produce a lengthy final report to the funding agency. Some even go on to write a series of academic articles published in peer-reviewed scholarly journals. At times, the researchers may also produce one or more books from the project and use the data to help masters and doctoral students with their theses and dissertations. Such outcomes are worthy pursuits in generating empirically based evidence and greatly valued by University and College administrators, which subsequently helps propel the career of the researchers in terms of promotion and status. However, often missing from this type of “model” is any sort of cumulative and concise feedback to the broader practitioner audience, and thus the purpose of the present article.
