Public Attitudes toward the Police in Taiwan

Abstract

Literature on citizens' confidence and satisfaction with the police and the perception of public safety have attracted much attention from stakeholders, especially in transitional societies like Taiwan, in which the rooting democracy as evident by accessible mass media of alternative political perspectives. Yet, it remains unclear whether this segment of public opinions is influenced by the political perspectives of the media, as well as citizens' political viewpoint. The present study used survey data collected from residents of three cities and two counties of Taiwan in 2010 to model the constructs of public attitudes toward the police and the impact of perceived public safety.
