The association between head injuries and threat control override in delinquent youth

Abstract

Prior research has detected that threat control override is associated with violent and criminal behavior. There is, however, a lack of research exploring the potential contributors to development of threat control override symptoms. This study partially addressed this gap in the literature by using the Pathways to Desistance data to examine if head injury, through its effect on brain functioning, is associated with the development of threat control override symptomatology. The results indicate that head injuries are significantly associated with threat control override, net of other variables.
