Killing Fields: An Examination of Homicides in Memphis Tennessee 2000 – 2015

Abstract

Memphis, Tennessee has become a killing ground. In April 2015, the Federal Bureau of Investigation reported Memphis as the third most dangerous city in the United States when compared with cities with populations over 200,000, ranking behind Detroit and Oakland. Drawing from a wide range of sources, this paper examines homicide rates in Memphis over the 15 year period of 2000 – 2015 in an attempt to identify significant trends, to include, but not limited to characteristics of offenders and victims.
