Exploring the perspective of BPO and MNC employees about crime in Delhi: A Case Study

Abstract

This study explores a number of sociocultural, developmental and locational factors about crime and victimization from the perspective of employees at multinational corporations (MNCs) and Business Process Outsourcing (BPOs) companies in Delhi (India) and surrounding areas. The prime reason to focus on MNC and BPO employees was to target the younger labor force that has recently become financially independent and has more expendable income. This labor force also includes a lot more women. Some of the additional factors taken into account are – mobility due to working late and recreational hours, poor infrastructure including public transportation, movement away from the protective networks such as family, growth of urban poor, and inadequacies of the criminal justice system. The study uses non-probability method of snowball sampling to examine how people engage, analyze and interact with their environment. Therefore, it does not force fit greater generalizations. Instead, it is to be treated as a case study that provides important insights from the perspective of a young labor force that is aspirational and expects better governance.
