• In Event: Human Trafficking Tactics and Networks

Abstract

Human trafficking is allegedly a multi-billion dollar global industry, but research on the topic is limited and often anecdotal. Research is essential to develop effective legislation and to better prepare local law enforcement to combat a global issue. Using a grounded theory approach, this research incorporates an in-depth exploration of the phenomenon of human trafficking through the study of social interactions among prostitutes and law enforcement officers. Interviews and personal observations gathered during an event case study are used to explore the dynamic between individuals involved with the sex trade including law enforcement officers, social service agencies, prosecutors, community members, and victims.
