Abstract

A significant and growing body of research has demonstrated the significance of romantic relationship involvement to offending patterns across the life course. Evidence demonstrates that these partnerships have serious implications for our understanding of crime from adolescence to adulthood. Despite the advancement of this literature in recent years, much remains to be understood. In particular, if we are to advance prevention efforts, it is necessary to better understand the childhood and adolescent risk factors that are associated with romantic involvement and quality in adulthood. This study addresses this issue and does so using a sample of serious juvenile offenders - a key policy relevant group. Results and policy implications are discussed.
