The Status of Criminal Justice Education: An Analysis of Contemporary Curricula in the US

Thu, Nov 17, 12:30 to 1:50pm, Hilton, Steering, Riverside Complex

Abstract

There is a longstanding debate in sociology, criminology, and criminal justice over the status of each as an independent discipline. In addition, there is very little consensus or published research on what types of courses belong in a criminal justice curriculum or the overall structure of the major. This paper reviews more recent literature on the disciplinary debate by conducting a national assessment of curricula, examining the nature of course offerings, structure of the major, and relationship to sociology programs.
