Sexual Assault Revictimization: Understanding the Correlates

Abstract

There has been increasing interest in the phenomenon of revictimization, or the concept that individuals who experience victimization in childhood are at increased risk for subsequent victimization at some point in their lives. In regards to sexual assault revictimization, prior research has examined rates as well as age at which exposure begins, frequency, and severity. Studies suggest variable rates implying sexual victimization in childhood or adolescence increases the likelihood of sexual victimization in adulthood. However, it remains unclear how mediating and co-occurring factors can enhance our understanding of a phenomenon. The aim of the current study is to examine these mediating and co-occurring factors through a multitude of psychometric scales.
