Abstract

This paper discusses research in DVSA that can inform research and practice in the anti-human trafficking field, specifically for sex trafficking in the United States. The purpose is to identify lessons learned that may help the anti-trafficking field apply a trauma-informed lens to understanding and addressing the consequences of victimization associated with human trafficking. We begin with a short representative overview of the evolution of the DVSA and human trafficking fields, followed by an explanation of the trauma-informed approach to interviewing, service provision, and conduct of research, including the lessons learned from both fields thus far. We then offer recommendations for future research in this area as well as a take-away chart of current applicable research for use in formulating future work.
