A Contemporary Comparison of Drug Use Tends among College and Non-College Enrolled Young Adults

Abstract

Using data from the 2013 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, this study examines the prevalence, frequency, and dynamics surrounding the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs among young adults aged 18-22. The central focus of this investigation will be the comparison of those in this age range who indicate full time college enrollment vs. those who do not. This examination seeks to determine if college enrollment, given the academic, social and normative values commonly inherent to the college lifestyle, has an effect on the substance use behaviors among this “traditional college aged” population.
