The Role of Jealousy in Teen Dating Violence Episodes

Wed, Nov 16, 3:30 to 4:50pm, Hilton, Grand Salon 13, 1st Level

Abstract

We lack information about why teen dating violence (TDV) occurs. We sought to determine the associations between TDV events and adolescents’ reports about their and their partner’s feelings of jealousy on the day immediately prior and the day of each TDV event. Adolescent women involved in a current TDV relationship (N=143) were recruited from public locations. Participants answered questions daily about TDV victimization and perpetration and feelings of jealousy for 4 months using their Smart Phones. Generalized estimating equations accounted for within-person correlation. Participants were on average 18.2 years; 92% African-American; 68% had maternal education
