Abstract

Existing measures of crime displacement rely on a number of untested assumptions about the spatial instability of crime. These include requirements that displacement be non-dispersed and therefore observable in the localized area spatially adjacent to an intervention and also that crime displacement can be rejected in the absence of global crime reductions. The present paper explores the different components of crime displacement and how they could be measured without making either of these two assumptions.
