Abstract

The deaths of Eric Garner, Michael Brown, and Trayvon Martin have elicited emotional and rapid commentary throughout the internet. These high profile and a troubling events have led to marches, demonstrations, discussions, ranging from grass root operations to White House press conferences. However, there is limited discussion as to how Black College Student Organizations utilize social media platforms to post, share, and exchange information pertaining to these high profile events. Using a sample of public Facebook group pages (N=95) of Black College Student Organizations, the purpose of the study is to analyze the types of postings related to these deaths as well as postings related to the Black Lives Matter movement.
