Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, Juvenile Justice Reentry Measurement Standards Project: An Overview

Abstract

Currently, there is wide variation in how juvenile justice agencies identify, implement, and use measures in juvenile reentry to track and understand the institutional experiences of youth, what transitional supports or services youth receive while incarcerated and through their transition and reentry into the community, and their outcomes after being released from facilities. While some states and localities have exemplary measurement systems, others are seeking additional guidance regarding what to measure and how. In response to the gaps in how the field measures juvenile reentry services, pathways, and outcomes and to advance the goal of improving data to serve the information needs of state and local justice agencies, OJJDP launched the Juvenile Reentry Measurement Standards project in late 2015. Federal staff will discuss the purpose, goals, and activities of this project and how it aligns with other agency data improvement efforts aimed at improving the quality and consistency of data and the use of data for basic problem identification, monitoring and assessment, and measuring the impact of system changes.
