The Exposure to Violence by Law Enforcement: Perceptions and Insights Regarding Experiences with Trauma, Phase II

Abstract

This study examines the extent of violence that police officers are exposed to during specific intervals in their career. The data details explicit traumatic duty-related experiences that involve the deaths of individuals by various causes. A questionnaire was used to survey police officers and offer a quantification for analyzing how much tragedy law enforcement is exposed to during occupation intermissions. Interview results provide further insight for policy-makers when determining whether training and intervention is necessary and beneficial to those exposed to violent and traumatic deaths.
