Money Laundering, Risk Assessment and Economic Sectors

Wed, Nov 15, 12:30 to 1:50pm, Marriott, Room 406, 4th Floor

Abstract

Current money laundering policies often rely on the same prescribed instruments for many economic sectors. For 'risk based' policies, however, it is important to know in which economic sectors money laundering risks are relatively higher. This paper builds upon work conducted as part of project IARM and focuses on money laundering and risk assessment in the Netherlands. In this paper, we discuss theoretically and empirically how these risks can be measured and we present results based on data regarding economic sectors in the Netherlands.
