Noncitizens in the Federal Criminal Justice System, 1994-2014

Abstract

Using data from the Federal Justice Statistics Program, BJS examined noncitizens in the federal criminal justice system from 1994 to 2014. The authors present trends in the prosecution of noncitizens in U.S. district courts for violent, property, drug, and public order offenses. The authors also examined the dispostions and sentences imposed on noncitizens and the effect of incarceration of noncitizens on the composition of federal prison populations. The report also incorporates reported data on immigration and citizenship from the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Immigration Services.
