What a Community Needs Assessment Can Tell Us About Perceptions of Police

Abstract

This paper is based on a community needs assessment conducted in one town in the state of New Jersey in preparation for the town's redevelopment. The assessment included several questions on residents' perceptions of the police in their neighborhood. This paper reports the findings on residents' perceptions of police, as well as the correlates of their perceptions. These findings are discussed in the context of previous research on perceptions of police and community-police relations.
